Types of wood for sauna construction
Sauna wood and its properties
The wood material and its high-quality workmanship are decisive for the quality of your sauna. Since 1981, our company has proudly held the controlled RAL quality mark, which clearly reflects the result of high quality and skilled craftsmanship.
Wood is our basic material and is particularly well suited to sauna construction due to its positive properties, such as easy processing, high load-bearing capacity, a pleasantly warm atmosphere, and a good indoor climate. However, not all wood is the same. Various types of wood differ not only in texture and appearance, but also have different thermal conductivity properties.

Abachi wood
Abachi wood is a soft, light-colored wood. Due to its low thermal conductivity, it is ideally suited for surfaces that come into direct contact with our sauna towel, such as benches, intermediate bench cladding, and backrests.

ALTHOLZ
Reclaimed wood in a sauna is always an “eye-catcher” and creates a rustic, quaint ambiance. The wood, in its originality and authenticity, with some wormholes still present, is installed by us as brushed boards for interior or exterior cladding, either vertically or horizontally.

American cherry tree
American cherry wood is a dark, reddish-brown wood with a beautiful, distinctive wood grain that showcases your sauna or infrared cabin in an individual and stylish way. We install the wood as oiled planks.

American walnut
American walnut wood, also known as black walnut, is a reddish-gray-brown wood from North America. The different color nuances give the wood its distinctive character. Thanks to its elegant, aesthetic wood grain, it is ideally suited as paneling for saunas or infrared cabins.

Birch
Birch wood is a soft, light-colored wood with a uniform yellowish to light reddish-brown hue. With its predominantly even surface, it gives the sauna a simple, elegant touch. We process the birch wood into special sauna plywood, installed horizontally or vertically.

Alder sun-kissed
An absolute “eye-catcher” is the exterior cladding made of sun-weathered alder boards. The fascinating interplay of colors of the differently worked wooden boards, together with the patchwork-like arrangement, makes the sauna look lively and harmonious.

Nordic spruce
Nordic spruce wood is a soft, light-colored wood with natural knots. We primarily use it for the solid wood sauna Massiva. Additional exterior cladding is unnecessary, as the quality of the sauna walls allows an aesthetically pleasing view of the naturally grown spruce wood.

Canadian hemlock
Canadian hemlock has a warm yellowish-reddish hue. It is stable, durable, and does not release resin. This makes it ideal for sauna construction. Its predominantly knot-free surface gives the sauna a modern, clean appearance. Especially in combination with glass fronts, the sauna looks elegant and futuristic. Canadian hemlock can also be used as profiled wood.

Hemlock stab profile
An eye-catching visual feature is the Canadian Hemlock with its slat profile. With its horizontal lines, it makes every sauna look modern and futuristic.

Canadian hemlock profile wood
Canadian hemlock is also used by Manz Döbele as profiled wood. An appealing and interesting appearance is created by the relatively uniform wood grain and the interplay of different color shades.

Aspen paneling
Aspen is a pleasantly light-colored wood with a whitish to yellowish hue that gives the sauna a clear and welcoming appearance. Its low thermal conductivity makes it ideal for sauna construction. It is processed into sauna profiled wood for the interior and exterior cladding of our saunas.

Red cedar paneling boards
The red cedar paneling gives the sauna an attractive, varied overall appearance, whether used for interior or exterior cladding. Through its broad range of warm, inviting color shades, ranging from light amber yellow to rich reddish brown, the wood creates a harmonious, cozy atmosphere in your sauna.

Swiss stone pine
Swiss stone pine wood is relatively soft and easy to work with. The light-colored wood has a pleasant Swiss stone pine scent and looks light and appealing. Its natural knots make every sauna unique.

Solid wood panel material
In addition to smooth sauna wood surfaces, there are unique surfaces that are ideally suited for sauna construction and create truly distinctive accents. Whether featuring the embossed surface of old wooden beams, reclaimed wood weathered and refined by sun, wind, and rain, or genuine slate rock - the varied real wood panel material transforms your sauna into a truly unique one-of-a-kind creation.
